Placing Holds On Items
Being Used By Others
When an item is checked out to a borrower,
another patron can place a hold on that item. When a hold is placed, the person
requesting the hold will be notified when the book is returned. The
previous borrower will not be able to renew the book. If the book is not returned they will
face library restrictions and the possibility of flags on their College student records.
Borrowers eligible to place a hold include Darton Students, Faculty and Staff, and Community patrons who have a valid Library
barcode/account number and are free of any
restrictions. The person placing the hold must provide us with an
updated address to receive notification when the book they need is available.
For offline holds (in the library) go to the Circulation
Desk and present your valid Library
barcode/account number
You can place your own holds from the
GIL
public access catalog. For details, see Accessing
Your GIL Account Information
When an item is checked out to a borrower,
another patron can recall that item. When a recall is placed, the person
who has borrowed the book will be asked to bring it back if they have had it
for at least two weeks. They will not be able to renew the book.
If the book is not returned they will face library restrictions and the possibility
of flags on their College student records.
Borrowers eligible to place a recall include Darton Students, Faculty and
Staff who have a valid Library
barcode/account number and are free of any
restrictions. The Library may also place urgent recalls for materials
needing to be placed on Class Reserves which MUST be returned immediately to
the Library. The person placing the recall must provide us with an
updated address to receive notification when the book they need is available. You can place your own recalls from the

In cases where several patrons have placed
recalls on the same popular book, each patron will be allowed to borrow the
book for a two-week period in the order in which the recalls were placed.
A recall on an item for course reserve takes precedence over individual
recalls.
Recalls cannot be placed on items currently on
course reserve.
