Welcome to CHEM 1151K Survey of Chemistry I online. I want to welcome
everyone and ask you to read over the course syllabus. The syllabus will
answer all your questions concerning lab, testing requirements and the grading scale. I know you have seen many of the instructions included in the distance learning orientation site http://online.darton.edu/orientation.htm
Please make use of this site to assist you with this course. You may want
to print the following instructions out to use as we go through the course.
1. Please read over the Course Syllabus and become familiar with course requirements.
2. Make sure your computer is equipped for distance learning. Visit the Technical Requirements section and get the Browser Tune-up for your machine.
3. If you experience technical problems please visit the WebHelp Desk for assistance
4. You will not be able to log on to the Course Website until the first day of classes (see Academic Calendar). For complete logon instructions go to the Ga View WebCT log in page. Then, under the quick reference guides, click Logging On. Please change your password for WebCT as soon as you are able to log on.
5. Once you log into the course please look over the course calendar and pay special attention to the due dates for the labs, and the final exam and midterm dates. It is vital to your success in the course that you keep up with the scheduled assignments!
6. You will be required to come on campus for the midterm and the final exam (see calendar). Distance Learning Students residing outside the Albany, GA area who cannot travel to the campus should contact the instructor to negotiate suitable exam proctoring arrangements.
7. You may want to go ahead and obtain a pair of safety glasses for the laboratory experiments so you will be ready for the first lab. The safety section in the course syllabus gives detailed information concerning lab glasses.
8. After looking through the course email me from within the course to let me know you have made it online.
Please post a brief message to the Discussion Forum that contains your
name, major, and plans after you finish at Darton. A quick reference guide to

9. To get started in this class, go to the course calendar and print out the schedule for the first two months of class. Next check your email for an introduction to class from your instructor.
