Course Description:  Topics addressed in this course will include chemistry, cells, genetics, and evolutionary mechanisms.  These topics will be covered through online material and reading assignments.  Laboratory exercises supplement the lecture material. Note: while any student is welcome to take this course it is taught with the science major in mind and as such it is taught at the appropriate level.

Required Materials:

You CANNOT succeed in this class if you do not have the required text and on-line supplements!

Make sure that you log on to WebCT using the Logon Instructions on the first day of scheduled classes.  (See the Academic Term Calendar to determine this date each semester.)

Welcome to the hybrid section of BIOL 1107K.  You will complete the lecture portion of this course on-line and the laboratory component will be completed in weekly lab meetings.  In the list below, the different colored words are links to other web pages that you need to read for the Online Orientation. Click on each link in the list, and read each page carefully, as it contains important information about being successful in this online course.

Please note that "attendance" in an on-line course is measured by work submitted.  Students are expected to submit all assignments and take all quizzes according to the published schedule or make other arrangements in advance of the scheduled time. Missing a scheduled deadline, for any reason, including illness, late registration or your computer not operating, in no way relieves the student of the responsibility for completing the assignment. The student is responsible for taking exams at the approved time and place, and for submitting assignments on time.  Most students selecting this form of instruction have busy schedules with many unexpected interruptions. PLAN AHEAD. WORK AHEAD. Allow yourself time on your schedule for problems. YOU MAY submit activities BEFORE they are due. If you anticipate any potential problems, contact me ASAP and discuss those concerns.

If you have any questions, please call.  I am looking forward to a great semester.
