The purpose of
this course is to provide studnets with a basic understanding of
public speaking. Research and popular sources have shown that of
all the skills employers are looking ofr in college gradutes,
communication skills are among the most important. Developing
your skills in oral and written communciation can make you more
marketable in today's job market. As a result, learning how to
gather, analyse, organize and present information clearly will
be of great use to you in your future careers. |

site for distance learning students, you need to view the

www.darton.edu and select WebCT. Log on using
the instructions posted. The system may require you to

Deadlines and
Penalties: All assignments must be completed and submitted on
the dates they are due. |
| Additional information |
The very nature
of this course demands that students adhere to a very firm
schedule. Therefore, late assignments without a VALID excuse are
not acceptable. Students should be prepared to turn in or
present any work you missed due to an excused absence DURING THE
WEEK YOU RETURN TO CLASS |

| Grade Scale |
Grades will be
based on the following scale: A (90 - 100) Excellent Work B (80
- 89) Good Solid Work C (70 - 79) Average Work D (60 - 69) Poor
Work F (> 60 ) Failing Work Grades will based on the degree to
which students meet the guidelines laid out for each assignment
in the Student Handbook. Please note that as you progress
throughout the semester, the standards by which your assignments
are judged change with your level of experience and knowledge.
Before each speech, be sure to review the assignment to ensure
that you have all the required elements. |

a vital part of achieving success in this course. Weekly

mandatory. Your instructor will deduct five points for each
assignment not complete each week from the overall participation
