Welcome to class! It’s my pleasure to work with you during this course. Although you will not be attending “regular” classes on campus, I just want to let you know that I am available to help you and look forward to facilitating your learning throughout this semester.
Please remember, taking an online course requires MORE discipline and MORE work on your part. You will need to read the appropriate chapters and complete all other requirements as assigned. Learning requires active participation and the willingness to sacrifice the necessary time and effort. The drive to do so must come from deep within. Don’t let yourself down.

SYLLABUS: The syllabus is sent via WebCT email. Print, read and become incredibly familiar with the information in the syllabus. You are responsible for knowing exactly how this course functions and the expectations therein. Ask if you are not certain. Ignorance of expectations, due dates and procedures is not an excuse for noncompliance.
ASSIGNMENTS: All assignments for this course are explained on the Syllabus, and the deadlines are found on the last page of the Syllabus … the “Calendar”. Your assignments will be delivered through WebCT. All Internet Activities (IAs) are done on the WORKSHEET that I provide.
DEADLINES: Although this course is “online” it is very important that you realize the expectations regarding the pace of learning. This is NOT a self-paced course so ALL DEADLINES apply, as stated in the syllabus (see last page for calendar). That means that all tests must be done on the days scheduled and all assignments must be emailed through WebCT by the due dates. Each weekly lesson begins on Sunday and ends on the following THURSDAY at midnight.
TESTS: The TWO EXAMS are delivered through WebCT and must be taken on the dates specified.
COMMUNICATING: All communication concerning this course is done through WebCT email. I check email here daily and will reply promptly. Please check your email frequently. I use this function often to correspond with students for both individual and entire class announcements. It is your responsibility to keep current with all information.
EMAIL SUBJECT LINES: Type something descriptive in the e-mail’s subject line. Type REPLY REQUESTED to indicate that it’s an email that needs to be answered soon. This will make for better communication in this class.
COMPUTER ISSUES: Make sure your computer is equipped for distance learning. A “BROWSER TUNE-UP” is available under the Darton distance learning links to help you make sure your computer is ready. Please read the minimum system requirements for online learners to make sure your computer is equipped to deliver this course. If you have any problems getting into our course or experience other technical problems, call the WebHelp Desk at 229-430-6923 (1-800-861-8318 outside Albany). You can also email them at webhelp@darton edu.
Thanks for registering for this class. Good luck and I’ll see you in Cyberspace!
