Crime, neighborhood quality of life issues, the courts and sentencing, and the issues of punishment and rehabilitation affect every member of society

Online Criminal Justice Degree Options Students can now earn the Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice online. This exciting opportunity allows students to earn a college degree in criminal justice by taking classes that fit their schedule. Darton's online courses will provide the same quality of instruction that students find in our classrooms.
The Associate of Science online transfer degree requires the standard USG Core Curriculum, with the following required major area courses:
  • Introduction to Criminal Justice
  • Introduction to Corrections
  • Introduction to Criminal Law
  • Introduction to Criminology
  • Two additional related elective courses

 

The Criminal Justice Management Certificate option is a 30-semester- hour program designed for the practitioner in the field who wants to develop management skills. The program is free to Georgia residents through the HOPE grant. Many of the required courses can be applied to a degree program. Upon completion of the 30-hour certificate option with a 3.0 GPA, the student becomes eligible for traditional HOPE Scholarship assistance.

Student Organization
Darton College criminal justice majors will want to join Omega Xi Theta, Darton's chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association Lambda Alpha Epsilon (ACJA-LAE). It promotes awareness of criminal justice issues, sponsors seminars and debates on contemporary topics, provides service to the community, participates in professional workshops, and develops valuable contacts with leaders in the criminal justice community Members also gain practical experience through visits to jails, prisons, courtrooms, and other criminal justice facilities.

In addition, members may attend regional and national conferences sponsored by ACJA-LAE to meet criminal justice students from across the country and compete against then in events such as mock crime scene investigation, physical agility, and firearms skill. The national association also offers scholarships, sponsors student paper competitions, and recognizes members for outstanding scholastic achievement.
