About the Respiratory Care Collaborative
The program is designed to allow students in the Columbus and Valdosta areas to take the required general education and professional courses needed for the Associate of Science degree in Respiratory Care through online courses. Students will complete laboratory requirements as well as clinical rotations at   the partner hospitals.
The Associate of Science Degree at Darton College is a six semester program that prepares graduates to function as advanced level practitioners. Graduates are eligible to take the advanced level examination offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care and earn the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credential.

The Darton College Respiratory Care Program is fully accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), 1248 Harwood Rd. Bedford, TX 76021, (817) 283-2835.

Darton College is a recognized leader in distance learning and has offered online courses since 1996.

Choosing a Career That   Makes a Difference
You can live without food for a few weeks. You can live without water for a few days.     But if you are deprived of air you will die within minutes. Breathing is your most immediate need. Respiratory Therapists are       the health care specialists who evaluate, treat and care for patients with breathing disorders.

Are you a caring person who likes to help people? Do you like to work with high tech equipment? Do you enjoy a job where every day you will have different challenges and opportunities? Would you like a job where there are opportunities for specialization or advancement to management or education?
If you answered yes to these questions then Respiratory Therapy may be the career for you.

Respiratory Therapists work with patients     of all ages from infant to geriatric. Therapists   can specialize in areas such as neonatal care, geriatrics, cardiopulmonary diagnostics,  critical care, rehabilitation, management, polysomnography or asthma education.

The Need For Respiratory Therapists
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the need for Respiratory Therapists is expected to grow faster than the average for all jobs through the year 2012. The Georgia Department of Labor lists Respiratory Therapists among the 10 fastest growing occupations over the next decade. Starting salaries in this area are approx. $35,000 per year.
