Choosing a Career That Makes a Difference
You can live without food for a few weeks. You can live without water for a
few days. But if you are deprived of air you will die within minutes.
Breathing is your most immediate need. Respiratory Therapists are the
health care specialists who evaluate, treat and care for patients with breathing
disorders.
Are you a caring person who likes to help people? Do you like to work with
high tech equipment? Do you enjoy a job where every day you will have different
challenges and opportunities? Would you like a job where there are opportunities
for specialization or advancement to management or education?
If you
answered yes to these questions then Respiratory Therapy may be the career for
you.
Respiratory Therapists work with patients of all ages from infant to
geriatric. Therapists can specialize in areas such as neonatal care,
geriatrics, cardiopulmonary diagnostics, critical care, rehabilitation,
management, polysomnography or asthma education.

|
The Need For Respiratory Therapists
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the need for Respiratory
Therapists is expected to grow faster than the average for all jobs through the
year 2012. The Georgia Department of Labor lists Respiratory Therapists among
the 10 fastest growing occupations over the next decade. Starting salaries in
this area are approx. $35,000 per year.
